Asahikawa Horse Race Track (Banei Horse Racing)
It is the only one horse race track in Kamikawa area which is located south of Asahikawa. "Banei Horse Racing" and " Hokkaido Horse Racing" are different types of races which are held in each season. Unique to Hokkaido is "Banei Horse Racing" were nearly 800 kg to nearly 1t horses pull iron sledges. This started during festivals when farmers enjoyed racing farm horses during the reclamation of Hokkaido period. The gallant figure of heavily weighted horses pull iron sledge creates a race of different intensity from the normal horse racing. At the summer "Hokkaido Horse Racing Asahikawa Night Race" event, under the starry sky, important races such as the "Grand Chariot" and "Breeders Gold Cup" are held as intense races of speed by racing horses from all over the country.
